SeaTech Solutions International (SSI) and Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) to collaborate on Green Tug and Harbour Craft Designs.

Singapore

SeaTech Solutions International (S) Pte Ltd (SSI), a leading provider of vessel designs for the marine and offshore sectors, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), a globally recognized classification society. This agreement marks a significant step forward in fostering global cooperation, with a specific focus aimed to significantly reduce the environmental impact of the maritime industry.

The partnership reflects a joint commitment to green shipping, focusing on eco-friendly vessel designs that adhere to international sustainability standards. SSI will leverage its design and engineering expertise to incorporate advanced green technologies into these vessels, minimizing their environmental footprints. Central to this effort is the Green Tug Transition Program (GTTP), which encompasses the design and retrofit of green tugs and inland vessels in compliance with India’s “Harit Nauka – Green Transition Guidelines” and other international regulations.

IRS will play a critical role in this collaboration by providing technical oversight. This includes reviewing vessel designs and issuing Approval-In-Principle (AIP) to ensure alignment with both local and global environmental standards. This partnership ensures that all designs meet the rigorous demands of the maritime sector.

To further enhance the skills of maritime professionals, SSI and IRS will develop joint training programs. These initiatives will emphasize sustainable Green ship design, vessel decarbonization, alternative fuels, and waste reduction and recycling, thereby equipping engineers with the knowledge and skills necessary for implementing sustainable maritime operations.

The MOU also outlines a framework for collaborative research and development projects targeting key challenges in the maritime industry. This includes efforts in decarbonization through the development of energy-efficient vessels powered by cleaner alternatives, and the promotion of low-emission fuels that are both economically viable and scalable. The collaboration will also focus on optimizing vessel designs to enhance fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and lower operational costs, as well as improving onboard waste management and recycling processes to contribute to a circular economy.

Mr. G.S. Chopra, Managing Director of SSI stated, “We are delighted to join hands with IRS in working towards navigating to a green and sustainable future through Greentech solutions for shipping.

Mr. P K Mishra, Managing Director of IRS, stated, “This MOU is a testament to our ongoing commitment to fostering international cooperation and driving sustainable maritime practices. SeaTech’s expertise in maritime design, combined with IRS’ technical rigor, will play a key role in shaping the future of green shipping worldwide.

Through this partnership, SSI and IRS are committed to setting new benchmarks for sustainable shipping worldwide. By focusing on innovative vessel designs and ensuring compliance with global regulations, they aim to help the maritime sector meet local and international demands while prioritizing environmental stewardship.
